Sharing details on social media, Dr Jaishankar highlighted the growing importance of reforming global institutions to make them more representative, effective, and responsive to contemporary geopolitical and economic challenges.

During the session, he emphasized the centrality of reforms within the United Nations, particularly the expansion of both permanent and non-permanent categories of the United Nations Security Council.

According to Jaishankar, without meaningful expansion, the UN’s effectiveness and credibility would remain constrained.

The External Affairs Minister also underlined the need for text-based negotiations to accelerate long-pending UN reforms and called for urgent restructuring of the international financial architecture. He stressed that Multilateral Development Banks (MDBs) must become more responsive, robust, and better equipped to support developing economies, climate financing, and sustainable growth initiatives.

On global trade, Jaishankar reiterated the importance of a rules-based, fair, open, and inclusive international trading system with the World Trade Organization at its core. He highlighted concerns surrounding non-market practices, supply chain concentration, and uncertain market access, calling for stronger international cooperation.

Concluding his remarks, Dr Jaishankar stated that the message of the current global era is clear: “Cooperation is essential. Dialogue is necessary. Reform is overdue.”

The BRICS Foreign Ministers’ Meeting under India’s presidency is expected to play a significant role in shaping discussions around global governance reforms, financial restructuring, and multilateral cooperation among emerging economies.
