Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson highlighted the growing economic opportunities between India and Sweden, expressing optimism that bilateral trade and investment between the two countries could double within the next five years — and potentially even sooner.
Sharing his views on social media, Kristersson emphasized the shared ambition of both nations to strengthen economic cooperation and expand trade relations. He noted that while Sweden is a relatively small nation in terms of population, it remains a significant global trading power.
Vi har en gemensam ambition att fördubbla vår bilaterala handel och våra investeringar inom fem år. Med nuvarande hastighet tror jag att det kan bli verklighet ännu tidigare.

The Swedish Prime Minister acknowledged the role of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Ursula von der Leyen in opening new avenues of cooperation and strengthening economic opportunities.
According to Kristersson, the proposed free trade agreement is expected to create nearly 23,000 jobs across Sweden, with over 6,000 jobs projected to benefit the Gothenburg region alone. He also stressed that the agreement should not be viewed as the final destination but rather as the beginning of a broader and long-term partnership.
The remarks come amid expanding India–Sweden cooperation in sectors such as trade, innovation, technology, sustainability, manufacturing, and investment. The growing strategic relationship between India and European partners is expected to generate significant economic and employment opportunities in the years ahead.
