Abhishek Sharma and Malinga Shine as Sunrisers Edge Out Chennai in Thriller

Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) secured a crucial 10-run victory over Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in a high-octane IPL 2026 clash at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium on April 18. The win propels SRH into the top four of the points table, while CSK continues to struggle in the bottom half.

The First Innings: Abhishek’s Blitz and Klaasen’s Class
Opting to bat first, SRH set the stage on fire during the powerplay. Abhishek Sharma played a blistering knock of 59 off just 22 balls, dismantling the CSK pace attack early on. Following the foundation laid by Sharma, Heinrich Klaasen anchored the middle order with a calculated 59 off 39 balls, guiding SRH to a formidable total of 194/9.

The CSK bowlers managed to claw back in the death overs to prevent a 200+ score. Jamie Overton and Anshul Kamboj were the standout performers with the ball, both claiming 3 wickets each to keep the target within reach.

The Run Chase: CSK Fall Short Despite Gritty Starts

Chasing 195, Chennai Super Kings struggled to find the one massive individual score needed to cross the line. Matt Short (34) and youngster Ayush Mhatre (30) provided sparks of hope, but the SRH bowling unit remained disciplined under pressure.
