The 20th Asian Games Aichi-Nagoya 2026 officially came to a close, bringing down the curtain on a spectacular celebration of Asian sport that brought together more than 11,000 athletes from 45 nations.

The closing ceremony marked the end of an action-packed edition of the Asian Games and looked ahead to the next chapter, with Doha, Qatar, set to host the 2030 Asian Games.

OCA Flag Handed Over to Qatar
One of the defining moments of the closing ceremony came with the traditional handover of the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) flag.
OCA President H.E. Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad Al Thani handed the OCA flag, together with the historic Asian Games torch first lit in New Delhi in 1951, to Qatar, the host of the next edition in 2030.

The symbolic handover connected the history of the Asian Games with its future, as the sporting community turned its attention from Aichi-Nagoya to Doha.

Speaking during the ceremony, Sheikh Joaan said:
“Our hearts and homes are open to all of Asia, and everyone is welcome in Doha, the city for everyone.”
The message underlined Qatar's ambition to welcome athletes, teams and supporters from across the continent for the 2030 edition.
Aichi-Nagoya 2026 Draws to a Close
The closing ceremony formally ended the 20th edition of the Asian Games, following days of intense competition across numerous sporting disciplines.
Declaring the Games officially closed, OCA President Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad Al Thani said:
“I now declare the 20th Asian Games Aichi-Nagoya 2026 closed.”
The declaration brought an official end to an edition that showcased the depth, diversity and growing strength of Asian sport.
More Than 11,000 Athletes, 45 Nations
Aichi-Nagoya 2026 featured participation from more than 11,000 athletes representing 45 nations, making the Games a major gathering of sporting talent from across Asia.

For Team India, Aichi-Nagoya 2026 produced a memorable medal campaign across multiple disciplines.
India's performances included major successes in archery, shooting, athletics, boxing, cricket, hockey, golf, wrestling, kabaddi and other sports.

Among the standout achievements were India's gold-medal performances in women's hockey, men's cricket, women's boxing, women's golf and several archery and shooting events.
India also achieved historic milestones, including its first-ever Asian Games gold in women's individual golf and a landmark women's individual recurve archery gold.
The Indian contingent's campaign demonstrated the country's growing depth beyond its traditional medal-winning disciplines.
