Amit Shah on UP International Trade Show 2026: From Crime Industry to Investment and Manufacturing

Amit Shah on UP International Trade Show 2026 highlighted what the Union Home Minister described as a major transformation in Uttar Pradesh, pointing to the state's defence manufacturing, automobile, medical-device and investment sectors. Addressing the fourth edition of the Uttar Pradesh International Trade Show in Greater Noida on September 25, Shah also spoke about the One District One Product (ODOP) initiative and its role in supporting local manufacturers and creating employment opportunities within the state.

The UP International Trade Show 2026 is being held from September 25 to 29 at the India Expo Centre & Mart in Greater Noida. The event is designed to showcase Uttar Pradesh's industrial strength, traditional products, emerging businesses and manufacturing capabilities to domestic and international buyers.

Amit Shah highlights transformation in Uttar Pradesh

Speaking at the trade show, Amit Shah compared the present industrial landscape of Uttar Pradesh with what he described as conditions during the earlier Samajwadi Party and Bahujan Samaj Party governments.

Shah said that a "crime industry" had flourished in the state during that period. He contrasted this with developments in manufacturing and industrial infrastructure that he said have taken place in recent years.

According to Shah, the illegal pistol trade that he associated with the earlier period has been replaced by defence manufacturing, while automobile manufacturing has taken the place of vehicle theft. He also referred to the development of a medical device park.

These statements represent Shah's political characterization of the change in Uttar Pradesh and his assessment of the previous and current administrations.

Defence manufacturing and industrial development

One of the major areas highlighted by Amit Shah was Uttar Pradesh's growing defence manufacturing ecosystem.

Shah pointed to the establishment of a defence corridor as an example of the state's industrial transformation. Recent reporting from the trade show also highlighted defence manufacturing in Uttar Pradesh, including references to BrahMos and AK-203 production.

The Uttar Pradesh Expressways Industrial Development Authority (UPEIDA) is involved in the state's defence corridor and industrial infrastructure initiatives. The authority has also listed the UP International Trade Show 2026 among its current activities.
