‘Annapurna Day’ Observed in Bidhannagar with Focus on Women’s Welfare

‘Annapurna Day’ was observed at the Book Fair Ground in Bidhannagar, with West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari in attendance. The programme focused on the state government’s welfare initiatives, particularly those concerning women’s financial support, safety and empowerment.

A key focus of the programme was the Annapurna Yojana, under which eligible beneficiaries receive ₹3,000 per month through direct financial assistance. West Bengal observed September 17 as ‘Annapurna Divas’, coinciding with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s birthday, and the Prime Minister addressed the state programme virtually.

The event also highlighted initiatives related to women’s safety and empowerment and Kanya Ratna Diwas. The programme further highlighted the launch of the ‘Seva Sankalp Abhiyan’ across West Bengal on the occasion of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s birthday. The nationwide campaign was also reported as being launched on September 17.

The observance brought together discussions on financial assistance, women-centric initiatives and public-service programmes being undertaken by the state government.
