Annapurna Yojana: New Rules
KT- Suvendu Adhikari

Annapurna Yojana will provide ₹3,000 per month to eligible women aged between 25 and 60, with payments for verified beneficiaries scheduled to begin from August 17. The state government has now announced detailed eligibility criteria and additional conditions for beneficiaries.

The latest guidelines aim to ensure that financial assistance under the scheme reaches eligible women while preventing duplicate or ineligible claims. The government has also clarified income limits, existing welfare benefits, property-related conditions and age requirements.

Annapurna Yojana Payment From August 17

Under the Annapurna Yojana, eligible women will receive ₹3,000 every month. According to the announcement, beneficiaries whose verification has been completed will start receiving the money from August 17.

The government has said that the Finance Department will transfer the amount to beneficiaries' bank accounts on a district-wise basis.

Women whose verification is complete are expected to receive the payment during the second week of every month in subsequent months.

What Are the New Annapurna Yojana Eligibility Rules?

The government has introduced several conditions for determining eligibility.

Monthly Income Limit

Women whose monthly personal income exceeds ₹10,000 will not qualify for the Annapurna Yojana.
The government has also specified a family annual income threshold of ₹12 lakh as part of the eligibility framework.

Age Criteria

The scheme is intended for women between 25 and 60 years of age.

Widows within the 25–60 age group can also qualify, provided they meet the other conditions prescribed under the scheme.

Existing Government Benefits

Women who are already receiving benefits under other government welfare schemes may generally be excluded from Annapurna Yojana.

However, the government has clarified that beneficiaries receiving certain assistance, including disability allowance and PM-KISAN benefits, can still receive the ₹3,000 monthly assistance, subject to the other eligibility requiConditions

Rural Women Get Relaxation on House and Land Conditions

The latest announcement also provides some relaxation for women living in rural areas.
According to the stated criteria, rural women can remain eligible even if their house has more than three rooms.

Similarly, ownership of more than 50 decimals of land will not automatically disqualify an otherwise eligible rural woman from receiving the benefit.
These changes are expected to expand the pool of eligible rural beneficiaries.

Why Were Additional Conditions Introduced?

The Annapurna Yojana was announced as one of the major welfare commitments of the BJP's election manifesto. The government has repeatedly stressed that the financial assistance should reach genuine and eligible beneficiaries.

The latest eligibility framework is therefore intended to reduce the possibility of duplicate claims, prevent misuse of public funds and ensure that the scheme benefits women who meet the prescribed criteria.

The government has also indicated that women receiving another government allowance may qualify for the full ₹3,000 if their existing benefit is lower than the Annapurna Yojana amount, subject to the scheme's rules.

Annapurna Yojana Beneficiary Numbers Expected to Rise

The government has indicated that the number of beneficiaries is likely to increase further this month.
According to the figures cited by the Chief Minister, around 28 lakh women received Annapurna Yojana payments in June, while approximately 1.19 crore women received benefits in July.

The government expects the beneficiary base to expand further as verification of applications continues.

Payment After Verification

The government has emphasised that eligible women should not be concerned if their payment has not yet arrived. Officials are processing applications and completing verification.

Once verification is completed, eligible beneficiaries will receive the monthly assistance through direct bank transfers.
