Asian Games 2026: China Leads Medal Table After Day 2
Day 2 of the 20th Asian Games Aichi-Nagoya 2026 concluded with China extending its lead at the top of the medal standings after another strong day across shooting, swimming and other disciplines.
China moved to 38 medals, including 23 gold, 10 silver and 5 bronze, while hosts Japan remained second with 32 medals. South Korea occupied third place with 23 medals.

Shooting: China Edges India in World-Record Team Event
China's shooting trio of Sheng Lihao, Zhang Changhong and Ma Sihan delivered a record-breaking performance in the men's 10m air rifle team event, producing a world-record score of 1,899.0 points to claim gold.
India's trio of Himanshu Dhillon, Rudrankksh Patil and Parth Mane put up a superb challenge, finishing with 1,898.4 points to secure the silver medal.
The competition continued in the individual 10m air rifle final, where Olympic champion Sheng Lihao claimed gold. India's Himanshu Dhillon won silver, while Rudrankksh Patil secured bronze, giving India a double podium finish.
Historic First Medal for India in Mixed Martial Arts
India created history in Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) as Suchika Tariyal won the country's first-ever Asian Games MMA medal.
Tariyal secured bronze in the women's traditional -60kg division. She was involved in a tied semifinal bout against Singapore's Teo Hui Hoon, with Teo advancing to the final following a morning weigh-in tiebreaker.
The result gave Tariyal and India a landmark medal in the sport at the Asian Games.
Aquatics: China Continues to Dominate
China also maintained its strong run in the pool.
At the Tokyo Aquatics Centre, 13-year-old Chinese swimming prodigy Yu Zidi captured her second gold medal of the Games in the women's 200m individual medley, setting an Asian Games record in the process.
China added another swimming gold through Dong Zhihao, who won the men's 100m breaststroke, further strengthening China's position at the top of the medal table.
China Leads as Competition Intensifies
With 23 gold medals and 38 medals overall, China continued to set the pace after Day 2. Japan followed with 8 gold and 32 total medals, while South Korea had 5 gold and 23 total medals.
India's strong performances in shooting and MMA added important medals to its campaign, with the country's tally standing at 6 medals — 4 silver and 2 bronze after Day 2.
