Asish Banerjee Death: Suvendu Adhikari Calls for Fresh Probe
KT- Suvendu Adhikari

Asish Banerjee death has sparked concern across West Bengal, with Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari expressing condolences and calling for a thorough police investigation into the circumstances surrounding the veteran Trinamool Congress leader's death.

Banerjee, a former Deputy Speaker of the West Bengal Assembly and senior TMC leader, was found dead at a party office in Rampurhat, Birbhum district, on Sunday morning. Police have initiated an investigation, while his body has been sent for post-mortem examination.

Speaking about the incident, Suvendu Adhikari said he had spoken to Banerjee's family and described the former Deputy Speaker as a decent political leader with whom he shared a cordial relationship.

Suvendu Adhikari Speaks to Asish Banerjee's Family

Reacting to the Asish Banerjee death, Suvendu Adhikari said he had contacted the bereaved family shortly before making his remarks.

The Chief Minister said Banerjee maintained good relations with people across political lines in his constituency. He also referred to the BJP MLA from the area, who, according to Adhikari, had visited Banerjee and shown him respect.

Adhikari further claimed that Banerjee's family had spoken about his cordial relations with local BJP workers as well as the police.

Calling the incident unfortunate, Adhikari said he also intended to visit the family personally and offer his condolences.

Adhikari Calls for Cooperation With Police

Suvendu Adhikari urged Banerjee's family to cooperate fully with investigators as the police work to establish the circumstances surrounding the death.

He also raised questions about whether political pressure could emerge during the investigation and said the family should not be intimidated.

The Chief Minister suggested that investigators should examine relevant call records as part of the probe. However, these remain suggestions made by Adhikari, and the circumstances of Banerjee's death have not yet been established by the police.

Police Investigation Underway

Police have begun investigating the death of the former West Bengal Assembly Deputy Speaker.

Officials have sent the body for post-mortem examination, which is expected to form part of the investigation into the circumstances of the incident.

At present, authorities have not publicly established a definitive cause or motive. The investigation is expected to examine evidence from the location and other relevant information.

The Asish Banerjee death case has therefore drawn significant political and public attention, particularly because of his long career in state politics.

Suvendu Adhikari Recalls His Relationship With Banerjee

Adhikari also recalled his personal association with the veteran TMC leader. He said Banerjee had contacted him after he assumed his current political position and had expressed an intention to meet him.

According to Adhikari, their relationship remained cordial despite their political differences.

The Chief Minister also referred to Banerjee's resignation from a committee formed by Mamata Banerjee following an election setback. He suggested that this aspect of Banerjee's political career could also be relevant background for understanding his recent activities.

However, these political developments do not by themselves establish any connection with the circumstances surrounding his death.

Who Was Asish Banerjee?
Asish Banerjee was a veteran figure in West Bengal politics and served as Deputy Speaker of the state Legislative Assembly. He was associated with the Trinamool Congress for several years and remained an important political figure in Birbhum district.

His death has prompted reactions from political leaders and supporters across the state.

As investigations continue, attention is expected to remain focused on the police findings and the post-mortem report. Authorities will need to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident before any conclusions can be drawn.

Investigation Will Determine the Facts

The Asish Banerjee death investigation remains ongoing. While political leaders have raised various questions, the final facts will depend on the evidence collected by investigators.

Police are expected to examine available records, statements and other evidence as part of the probe.

Any further developments will depend on the findings of the investigation.

Suvendu Adhikari has said he will meet Banerjee's family and reiterated that the police should take appropriate action based on the evidence.

The incident has once again brought attention to the political career of a veteran Bengal leader and raised questions that authorities will now have to address through a detailed and impartial investigation.
