Australia Backs India's 2036 Olympic Bid: Albanese

Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese on Thursday announced Australia's support for India's bid to host the 2036 Olympic Games, describing sport as a powerful pillar of the growing India-Australia partnership.
Speaking alongside Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the iconic Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG), Albanese said both nations are committed to strengthening cooperation through a new India-Australia Sports Partnership Roadmap.

"Today, we recognise that in both our countries, sport is serious business. That is why Prime Minister Modi and I are here to launch a roadmap for sports collaboration between Australia and India to strengthen our long-standing partnership," Albanese said.

The Australian Prime Minister highlighted that the roadmap would promote practical cooperation in sports science, athlete development, hosting major international sporting events, and expanding opportunities in trade, tourism, and investment.
Albanese also reaffirmed Australia's support for India's ambition to host the 2036 Olympic Games, calling it another milestone in the deepening strategic relationship between the two countries.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who addressed the gathering at the MCG, emphasized that sport has become a bridge connecting India and Australia. He highlighted the success of the Khelo India programme in nurturing young talent and reiterated India's commitment to building world-class sports infrastructure as it pursues the 2036 Olympic dream.

The launch of the sports collaboration roadmap marks a significant step in expanding bilateral cooperation beyond cricket, with both countries aiming to strengthen partnerships in sports innovation, athlete development, event management, and economic collaboration linked to global sporting events.
