Emma Raducanu came through a tough first round match vs Sloane Stephens.The 19-year-old British No 1 is appearing at the Australian Open for the first time.Raducanu stormed through the first set, winning 6-0 in just 17 minutes of action.But American Sloane Stephens fought back superbly to take the second set 6-2.However, the US Open champion found her groove again to claim the final set 6-1.She will play Danka Kovinic from Montenegro in round two on Thursday.

“Both me and Sloane really put everything out there and it was a very high-quality match. I’m very happy to come through against such a great champion.
“It was a tough match-up for a first round, I knew there was going to be some very long rallies and I was having to work extremely hard for my points.
“Coming out for the first set I played some good tennis. Of course there was going to be some adversity but happy to have regrouped in the third set.”
