Ayush Shetty on Alwi Farhan Defeat: “He Played With Much More Patience”
India’s men’s singles hope Ayush Shetty was knocked out of the BWF World Championships in New Delhi on Thursday after suffering a straight-game defeat against Indonesia’s Alwi Farhan in the pre-quarterfinals.
Shetty went down 19-21, 11-21 in a hard-fought contest. The Indian shuttler had his opportunities in the opening game but was unable to capitalise on them.
Reflecting on the match, Shetty admitted that Farhan was the better player on the day.
“I think I had my chances in the first game, but I couldn't convert it. In the second game, I think, he (Alwi Farhan) was playing with more confidence, and his shots were very clear.”
Shetty also praised the Indonesian’s patience and control, adding that Farhan managed the match effectively as the contest progressed.
“Overall, I think he was the better player today. He played with much more patience and he was controlling the match really well.”
The defeat brings Shetty’s campaign at the home World Championships to an end, while Farhan advances to the quarterfinal stage.
