6 Crore People in Bengal Set to Benefit From Ayushman Bharat Scheme

Union Minister of State Anupriya Patel described the rollout of expanded healthcare benefits in West Bengal as a “momentous day”, saying around 6 crore people in the state are set to receive the benefits of the Ayushman Bharat scheme.

Patel also said that around 80 lakh families will benefit from the Mukhyamantri Swasthya Bima Yojana, expanding access to financial protection for medical treatment.

According to Patel, there are currently around 38,000 empanelled hospitals, enabling beneficiaries to access cashless or free medical treatment worth up to ₹5 lakh.

Highlighting the scale of the healthcare coverage, Patel said the availability of a large network of empanelled hospitals would allow beneficiaries to access treatment across locations, reducing the financial burden on families facing major medical expenses.

The announcement comes amid efforts to expand access to government-backed health insurance and strengthen healthcare coverage for people across West Bengal.
