Bosnia Beat Qatar 3-1 to Boost World Cup Last-32 Hopes
Bosnia and Herzegovina kept their FIFA World Cup 2026 knockout dream alive with a convincing 3-1 victory over Qatar in Seattle, boosting their chances of reaching the last 32.
The Europeans made a dominant start and were rewarded through 18-year-old Kerim Alajbegovic, who produced one of the tournament's standout goals. The teenage sensation dribbled past two defenders before curling a stunning right-footed strike into the top corner, becoming the youngest Bosnian to score on the FIFA World Cup stage.
Bosnia doubled their advantage when captain Edin Dzeko, making his 150th international appearance, forced an own goal. Dzeko's powerful half-volley deflected off defender Sultan Al-Brake and spun into the net after wrong-footing goalkeeper Mahmud Abunada.
Qatar responded before halftime as captain Hassan Al-Haydos finished from close range after a clever assist from Edmilson Junior, reducing the deficit to 2-1.
The Asian side pushed for an equaliser in the second half, with coach Julen Lopetegui introducing all-time leading scorer Almoez Ali, but Bosnia remained composed.
Substitute Ermin Mahmic sealed the victory late in the match when his deflected effort found the back of the net, securing a valuable three points for Sergej Barbarez's side.
The result leaves Bosnia and Herzegovina awaiting confirmation of their place in the FIFA World Cup 2026 Round of 32, while Qatar's campaign ends at the group stage.
