Cleveland Clinic Enters India with Mega Healthcare Project in Maharashtra

In a landmark development for India's healthcare sector, the Maharashtra Government has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Cleveland Clinic, Brookfield Asset Management, and Arodhan Health City to establish the Navi Mumbai International MediCity (NMIMC), a first-of-its-kind integrated healthcare, research, and innovation ecosystem in India.

Announcing the development on social media, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis described the agreement as a historic milestone that will position India as a global hub for healthcare, medical research, and innovation.

The project will attract a global investment of approximately USD 1.2 billion, create around 10,000 jobs, and span 250 acres in Navi Mumbai. Renowned US-based healthcare institution Cleveland Clinic will serve as the anchor partner, helping build a world-class ecosystem that combines advanced patient care, medical education, research, artificial intelligence, genomics, and healthcare innovation.

The MoU signing was witnessed by Cleveland Clinic CEO Dr. Tomislav Mihaljevic, Dr. Sameer Kapadia, Chairman of Cardiovascular Medicine, Cleveland Clinic Board Member Lakshmi Mittal, Executive Chairman of ArcelorMittal, Dr. Falcone, President of Emerging Markets, along with senior officials from all participating organisations.

Fadnavis said the initiative aligns with Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision of “Heal in India” and represents a bold step towards making India a preferred global destination for healthcare, research, and medical innovation. He also noted that the agreement was signed on the day PM Modi achieved a record 4,399 days in office, becoming India's longest-serving elected Prime Minister.

The Navi Mumbai International MediCity is expected to become one of the most advanced healthcare and life sciences hubs in Asia, strengthening Maharashtra's position as a leader in healthcare infrastructure and innovation.
