CM Suvendu Adhikari Makes Surprise Police Station Visits

Wednesday conducted surprise inspections at the Watgunge and Ekbalpur police stations in his Assembly constituency. The visits, carried out amid his official engagements, underline the state government's focus on strengthening law enforcement, improving police infrastructure, and enhancing public safety.

Holding the Home portfolio in addition to serving as Chief Minister, Adhikari has consistently emphasised the modernisation of the state's police force since assuming office. The latest inspections follow his earlier visits to Bhawani Bhavan and the Barrackpore Police Training School, reflecting his hands-on approach to monitoring policing at the grassroots level.

The Chief Minister first arrived at Watgunge Police Station at around 1:15 p.m. without prior notice. He inspected the Women's Help Desk, interacted with the officer on duty, and enquired about the complaint registration process, the number of complaints received, and the action taken by the police. He also spoke with police personnel to understand their working conditions and operational challenges.

During the inspection, Adhikari reviewed the station's infrastructure, paying particular attention to fire safety measures. He personally checked whether fire extinguishers were functional and within their validity period before inspecting the lock-up and discussing security arrangements with senior officers. The visit to Watgunge lasted around five minutes.

The Chief Minister later proceeded to Ekbalpur Police Station, where he followed a similar inspection schedule. He reviewed the functioning of the Women's Help Desk, inspected the station's facilities and lock-up, and sought details on complaints registered over the previous 24 hours along with the action taken in each case.

The West Bengal government has repeatedly stated that women's safety remains a key priority. Chief Minister Adhikari has reiterated his administration's zero-tolerance policy towards crimes against women and assured the police of full operational support to maintain law and order. He has also pledged continued investment in strengthening policing infrastructure across the state.

Officials noted that both Watgunge and Ekbalpur police station jurisdictions are considered sensitive areas with a history of law-and-order challenges. Against this backdrop, the Chief Minister's surprise inspections are being viewed as a strong message of administrative vigilance, accountability, and the government's commitment to ensuring effective policing and public safety across West Bengal.
