Suvendu Adhikari Vows Tough Action in Student Death Case
West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari has assured strict legal action following the death of a Class 4 student in an explosion that occurred during a Trinamool Congress (TMC) victory procession after last year's by-election.
Addressing the media, the Chief Minister said the state government has moved swiftly in the case and is determined to ensure the harshest possible punishment for those responsible.
"Goonda law will be invoked against anyone who acts like a 'Goonda'. We have taken immediate action. I also spoke to the child's guardian, who has hopes from the government. Based on the FIR registered against four people, two have already been detained and are being interrogated. We will do everything to ensure capital punishment," Adhikari said.
The Chief Minister also highlighted the government's efforts to strengthen law and order, particularly women's safety. He said initiatives such as Durga Vahini and Women's Helpdesks are being expanded to provide greater security across the state.
Adhikari alleged that police personnel had faced obstacles in carrying out their duties under the previous government but asserted that the current administration is taking a tougher stance against criminal elements.
"Big action will be taken in the coming days. I will do whatever is in my power. Around 200 people have been identified," he added.
The investigation into the explosion is ongoing, with police continuing to question suspects and identify others allegedly involved in the incident. The state government has reiterated its commitment to delivering justice to the victim's family and ensuring accountability for those responsible.
