It was yet another splendid moments for India at the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham on Super Sunday,
India’s biggest medal prospect Nikhat Zareen secured a Gold in the women’s 50kg bout. She was not the only pugilist with the Gold medal on their neck, as Amit Panghal and Nitu Ghangas also won the Gold medal in their respective final bouts. However, Sagar, who competes in the heavyweight division, had to be content with the silver medal after going down against England’s Delicious Orie. The pair of Sharath Kamal and Sreeja Akula won a gold in the mixed doubles table tennis event. However, the men’s doubles pair of Sharath and G Sathiyan had to be content with a silver in their event. The Indian women’s hockey team also ended their 16-year-long wait for a Commonwealth Games medal as they defeated New Zealand to win bronze. A historic moment was witnessed in men’s triple jump as India’s Eldhose Paul and Abdullah Aboobacker clinched Gold and silver respectively. Sandeep Kumar won Bronze in men’s 10 km Race Walk, Annu Rani also won Bronze in women’s javelin. The pair of Dipika Pallikal and Saurav Ghosal won the Bonze medal in squash mixed doubles. Kidambi Srikanth won the Bronze medal in badminton men’s singles, and the young pair of Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand won the bronze medal in women’s doubles. The Indian women’s cricket team also secured silver after going down against Australia A by nine runs in finals.

Who would have thought that India will better than day 9’s performance of 14 medals. Not only the Indian athletes added 15 medals on Sunday , it included a whopping 5 gold medals — Sharath Kamal/Sreeja Akula (Mixed Doubles TT), Nikhat Zareen (Boxing), Eldhose Paul (Men’s Triple Jump), Amit Panghal (Boxing), Nitu Ghanghas (Boxing). The total medal count now swelled to 55 — 18 gold, 15 silver and 22 bronze. Apart from the medallists, PV Sindhu and Lakshya Sen reached their respective singles final, and Satwik Sairaj Rankireddy & Chirag Shetty are through to the men’s doubles final. And India’s own Table Tennis legend Achanta Sharath Kamal also booked his berth in the singles gold medal match.
