CWG 2026: Arundhati Choudhary Clinches Women's 70kg Boxing Gold

India's remarkable boxing campaign at the Commonwealth Games 2026 reached another historic milestone as Arundhati Choudhary claimed the gold medal in the Women's 70kg category, defeating England's Chantelle Reid by a unanimous 5-0 decision in the final at Glasgow.

Arundhati displayed exceptional tactical discipline and ring intelligence throughout the contest. She established control from the opening round with sharp counter-punching, accurate footwork, and effective movement, earning all five judges' nod in the first round.

In the second round, the Indian boxer maintained complete control of the pace, keeping Reid at distance while landing cleaner scoring punches. Four of the five judges had Arundhati comfortably ahead entering the final round.

Despite Reid's late attempts to mount a comeback, Arundhati remained calm and composed in the closing minutes. Her defensive awareness and precise shot selection ensured a dominant finish, with four judges scoring the bout 30-27 and the fifth 29-28, sealing a comprehensive victory.

Arundhati had booked her place in the final after overcoming defending Commonwealth champion Rosie Eccles of Wales in a closely fought semifinal via split decision.

The triumph marks India's fifth boxing gold medal at the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games, making it the nation's most successful boxing campaign in Commonwealth Games history.

Arundhati joins an elite list of Indian champions at the Games, alongside Preeti Pawar (54kg), Sakshi Chaudhary (51kg), Jaismine Lamboria (57kg), and Priya Ghanghas (60kg), underlining India's dominance inside the boxing ring.
