The result marked a historic milestone for Indian para athletics, with the nation achieving its first-ever gold-silver finish in the Men's Shot Put F57 event at the Commonwealth Games.

Bronze: Cedric Idriss Lekezo Azamdzi (Cameroon) – 12.57m

Intense Battle Between Indian Teammates

The final witnessed a thrilling contest between India's two leading throwers. Juyal initially led the field with a throw of 13.08m on his second attempt before Rana responded with the competition-winning 13.40m on his second throw. Showing tremendous determination, Juyal improved to 13.28m with his final attempt to secure the silver medal and complete India's memorable one-two finish.

A Story of Determination

Shubham Juyal's journey to the Commonwealth Games podium is one of resilience and perseverance. A native of Roorkee, Uttarakhand, Juyal aspired to join the Indian Armed Forces like his father. However, in 2022, a motorcycle accident while travelling for his SSB interview resulted in the amputation of his leg.

During rehabilitation at Pune's Artificial Limb Centre, he embraced para athletics and trained under coach Rakesh Singh Rawat at the Army Paralympic Node. His rapid rise has seen him emerge as one of India's leading F57 throwers.

His major achievements include:
Gold – 2026 Indian Open Para Athletics Grand Prix
Silver – National Para Athletics Championships
Silver – Khelo India Para Games
7th Place – 2025 World Para Athletics Championships
Silver – Commonwealth Games 2026
Both Shubham Juyal and Soman Rana receive elite coaching, equipment, and international exposure under the Target Olympic Podium Scheme (TOPS) of the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, a programme that continues to strengthen India's medal prospects in para sports.
