Harjinder Kaur Lifts Lifetime Best to Win CWG 2026 Silver

Indian weightlifter Harjinder Kaur delivered the performance of her career to secure the silver medal in the women's 69kg weightlifting event at the Commonwealth Games 2026 on Tuesday night.

The 29-year-old produced a lifetime-best combined lift of 227kg—101kg in Snatch and 126kg in Clean & Jerk—to improve on the bronze medal she won at the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games. Her outstanding display also earned India its seventh weightlifting medal of the Glasgow Games.

Harjinder began confidently with a 96kg Snatch, followed by a 99kg lift, which briefly set a new Commonwealth Games record. She then successfully lifted 101kg, her personal best, to finish the Snatch segment in second place.

In the Clean & Jerk, she opened with 120kg to move into the lead before lifting 123kg, setting another Games record. Her final attempt of 126kg secured a new personal best and an overall total of 227kg, guaranteeing the silver medal.

Canada's Charlotte Simoneau claimed the gold medal with a dominant total of 235kg (108kg Snatch + 127kg Clean & Jerk).

Harjinder's achievement reinforces India's remarkable success in weightlifting at the 2026 Commonwealth Games. India has now won seven medals in weightlifting, including one gold, five silver and one bronze, with medal-winning performances from Mirabai Chanu, Harjinder Kaur, Gyaneshwari Yadav, Rishikanta Singh, and Muthupandi Raja.

The silver medal marks another major milestone in Harjinder Kaur's career and further establishes her among India's leading weightlifters on the international stage.
