Deepfake safeguards discussed as Ram Charan and Chiranjeevi meet Amit Shah

Deepfake safeguards were among the concerns raised by actors Chiranjeevi and Ram Charan when they hosted Union Home Minister Amit Shah at their Hyderabad residence on Monday. Union Minister G Kishan Reddy also attended the meeting, according to reports.

Ram Charan later shared photographs and an account of the discussion on Instagram. He said the misuse of artificial intelligence and deepfake technology was affecting artists and the film industry.

According to the actor, Shah responded positively and assured them the government would urgently examine the issue. Ram Charan said that response included work towards stronger protections and strict action against misuse.

Meeting comes as Ram Charan reunites with Sukumar

The photographs showed the actors welcoming Shah with a bouquet, an idol and a traditional shawl. Ram Charan thanked the minister for hearing their concerns and described his response as encouraging.

The account of the proposed Deepfake safeguards came from Ram Charan's public post. The reports describe an assurance of examination and stronger protections, rather than a newly announced set of rules.

Alongside the meeting, Ram Charan has begun his next collaboration with director Sukumar. The film has the working title RC17 and was launched at a traditional ceremony in Hyderabad.

Chiranjeevi attended that event as the special guest and sounded the ceremonial clapboard. Ram Charan also took part in the launch rituals, while the makers shared footage on their social media accounts.

Naveen Yerneni and Y Ravi Shankar are producing the project through Mythri Movie Makers. Bhushan Kumar's T-Series is presenting the film.

RC17 brings Ram Charan and Sukumar together again after their 2018 film Rangasthalam, which also starred Samantha Ruth Prabhu. Ram Charan expressed happiness about returning to work with the director, describing the collaboration as special in his social media post.
