The 2026 election season has officially kicked off with high energy as the states of Assam and Keralam, along with the Union Territory of Puducherry, begin voting in a single-phase exercise today, April 9.
From the tea gardens of Dibrugarh to the backwaters of Alappuzha, citizens are turning out in large numbers to exercise their democratic rights. Election Commission officials have ensured tight security and “model” polling stations to encourage participation.
Key Highlights of the Day:
Assam (126 Seats): The ruling coalition seeks a third consecutive term, while the opposition focuses on identity and development issues.
Keralam (140 Seats): A fierce three-way battle between the LDF, UDF, and NDA is unfolding across the state.
Puducherry (30 Seats): The UT is witnessing a compact but intense contest to decide the next local administration.
Voter Turnout: Early trends indicate a massive surge in rural areas, with overall turnout expected to cross 75% by the end of the day.
The fate of 2,140 candidates is currently being sealed in EVMs. While the polling ends this evening, the wait for the “Big Day”—the Counting of Votes on May 4—begins now.
