Deniz Undav turns super sub as Germany advance with comeback win over Ivory Coast
Germany secured a dramatic 2-1 comeback victory over Ivory Coast at tge Toronto Stadium to book their place in the Round of 32 of the FIFA World Cup.
Germany, following their 7-1 demolition of Curacao, struggled early on to assert their dominance against Ivory Coast defense.
The Elephants then took the lead against the four-time world champions half an hour into the game.
Franck Kessie pounced after German keeper Manuel Neuer had parried Amad Diallo's effort to smash the ball into the back of the net.
A frustrated Germany substituted Leroy Sane, Jamal Musiala, and Aleksandar Pavlovic to introduce Jamie Leweling, Nadiem Amiri, and Deniz Undav.
The changes paid off as Undav struck with his left foot from ultra-close range to equalise in the 68th minute and then swiveled past his marker and drove a fierce shot past goalkeeper Yahia Fofana in the fourth minute of stoppage time to snatch a win for the Germans.
The win kept Germany on top of Group E with 6 points from two matches while Ivory Coast remained on 3 points and will look to lock down their own knockout spot in their final group fixture against Curacao.
