The Enforcement Directorate on Monday arrested former West Bengal Minister Sujit Bose in connection with the alleged Municipality Recruitment Scam linked to the South Dum Dum Municipality, officials said.
According to the Enforcement Directorate (ED), Sujit Bose allegedly recommended around 150 candidates for various municipal posts in exchange for monetary benefits. Investigators claim that illegal appointments were facilitated through influence and corruption within the recruitment process.
The ED further stated that it has traced direct proceeds of crime, including flats allegedly acquired by Bose in return for providing municipality jobs to different individuals. Officials also claimed that investigators uncovered substantial cash deposits in bank accounts reportedly under his control.
The former minister is expected to be produced before a special court on Tuesday morning for further legal proceedings.
The Municipality Recruitment Scam has emerged as another major corruption case in West Bengal, with central agencies intensifying investigations into alleged irregularities in public sector appointments and recruitment processes.
