BJP Rally In Kolkata : The Home Minister and senior BJP leader Amit Shah arrived in Kolkata today to address a rally of BJP supporters in Kolkata. He landed in the city at around 1.30 pm and thereafter took a helicopter to the Racecourse Ground, from where he proceeded to Chowringhee Square that was the venue of today’s BJP show. There was a fair gathering of party supporters and workers where Amit Shah was the main speaker. As was expected, he urged voters in Bengal to elect and ensure that the Modi’s government returns to power once again in the forthcoming elections in 2024. He asked the crowd if they wished for the Ram Mandir to be built and received a thunderous “Yes” from them. He also spoke about widespread corruption among ministers of the state and challenged the Chief Minister to act against the accused ones.
Today’s rally is being projected as a protest meeting against the alleged mass corruption and scams that have emerged during the tenure of Bengal’s Mamata Banerjee government, which is in state power for three consecutive terms. Corruption is likely to be BJP’s focus for the upcoming general elections against the ruling party in the state.
Incidentally, the Trinamul Congress holds a mega annual public gathering to observe Martyrs’ Day on July 21 at the same place where the rally was held today. Though Kolkata Police had refused permission initially owing to a possible law and order situation, the BJP secured necessary permission for the rally from the Chief Justice’s Division Bench of Calcutta High Court.
Held on a weekday, the event effectively threw the city’s traffic out of gear. Several processions made their way to the meeting venue from both Howrah and Sealdah stations and major bus depots clogging the roads.
