NETBALL

Netball – Commonwealth Games: Day 6
In Pool A South Africa came through a tight contest to beat Wales 69-51, while Scotland picked up their first win of the Games by beating Barbados 72-28.

Meanwhile in Pool A Uganda earned their second win with a 63-26 success over Northern Ireland – who have now lost four from four.

Malawi overcame Trinidad and Tobago 70-30 in the late game in Pool B after Uganda had earlier beaten Northern Ireland 63-26.

CRICKET

Cricket – Commonwealth Games: Day 6
Tahlia McGrath impressed with bat and ball as Australia kept up their perfect record at the Games.

McGrath hit an unbeaten 78 – which included 10 fours and one maximum – and Beth Mooney added 70 as Australia finished with 160 for two

The favourites had been reduced to 19 for two after winning the toss and electing to bat first, but McGrath’s and Mooney’s unbroken 141-run partnership guided them to a solid total.

Pakistan stuttered in reply, as McGrath took three for 13 to make it three wins from three in the group.

Jemimah Rodrigues hit 56 off 46 balls to lead India to a competitive total of 162 for four.

That proved to be beyond Barbados, who could only make 62 for eight as Renuka Singh Thakur claimed remarkable figures of four for 10 and India confirmed their place in the semi-finals.

BEACH VOLLEYBALL

Beach Volleyball – Commonwealth Games: Day 6
Chris McHugh’s men’s title defence continued in fine fashion alongside new partner Paul Burnett as the Australians made it three wins from three with a 2-0 win over Rwanda.

Cyprus are off the mark in Pool C with a 2-0 win over Tuvalu, while South Africa beat the Maldives 2-1 and New Zealand overcame England 2-0.

In the women’s competition, Kenya got their first win with a 2-1 victory over Ghana and Canada beat New Zealand 2-0.

BOXING

Boxing – Commonwealth Games: Day 6
Scotland’s Sam Hickey guaranteed himself a medal in the men’s middleweight division after the referee stopped the contest in his fight with Adeyinka Benson of Nigeria.

And Yusuf Lucasi Changalawe of Tanzania will also be taking home a medal in the light heavyweight division and the referee stepped in to end his content with St Lucia’s Arthur Langelier.

Canada’s Tammara Thibeault remains on track to defend her middleweight title after the ref halted her fight with the Caymen Islands’ Hepseba Angel.

BADMINTON

Badminton – Commonwealth Games: Day 6
Malaysia’s Cheah Yee See and Lai Pei Jing launched their women’s doubles campaign with a 23-0 win over Barbados’ Sabrina Charllene Scott and Tamisha Janelle Williams.

Australia’s Nathan Tang beat Kenya’s Mdogo Sikoyo 2-0, while in the mixed doubles Scotland’s Christopher Grimley and Eleanor O’Donnell beat Zaki Shaheed and Fathimath Nabaaha Abdul Razzaq of the Maldives 2-0.

HOCKEY

Hockey – Commonwealth Games: Day 3
Australia extended their perfect record in women’s Pool B with a 2-0 win over Scotland.

Shanea Tonkin and Grace Stewart got the goals as the gold medal contenders made it four wins from four.

In Pool A, India made it three wins from four with a 3-2 victory over to keep the pressure on England at the top.

In men’s Pool A, Australia stayed perfect with a 3-0 win over South Africa and PAkistan edged to a 3-2 win over Scotland.

India coasted to an 8-0 win over Canada in Pool B as Wales overcame Ghana 6-1.

TABLE TENNIS

Malaysia’s Karen Lyne launched her singles campaign with a 4-1 win over Scotland’s Rebecca Plaistow, while compatriot Ai Xin Tee beat Judith Nangonzi of Uganda 4-0.

In the men’s tournament Qi Shen Wong started with a 4-0 win over Geoffrey Loi of Papua New Guinea.
