Cyclone Michaung Update: Cyclone Weakens After Landfall, Thunderstorms Continue In Tamil Nadu And Andhra Pradesh

The NDRF has deployed 29 teams to Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, and Puducherry to
undertake relief and rescue operations while Cyclone Michaung has weakened after making landfall
yesterday noon.

Makes landfall yesterday at Bapatla

The deep depression that had formed in the southwest Bay of Bengal and assumed the status of a cyclone
has wreaked havoc in the states of Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh. Cyclone Michaung made landfall
yesterday at Bapatla town along the coastal region of Andhra Pradesh. High-velocity winds buffeted the
town and nearby villages, uprooting large trees and electric poles and throwing life completely out of
gear. When it made landfall yesterday, Cyclone Michaung had a sustained maximum wind speed of 90-
100 km. Heavy rains accompanied by fierce winds battered the area. There was a report of at least
three persons being killed in cyclone-related incidents in the state.

Chennai and adjoining areas submerged underwater

The death toll arising from the torrential rains and rain-related incidents in the capital city and
neighboring districts has risen to 12. More than 61,600 people were shifted to relief camps in nine
districts, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin said.

Photos of Aamir Khan’s Rescue go viral

Aamir Khan has reportedly shifted base to Chennai to be with his ailing mother who is undergoing
treatment in a private medical facility in the city was caught in the incessant downpours and flooding and
had to be evacuated to safety. The Bollywood superstar was rescued by Tamil Nadu Fire and Rescue
Services in a boat, the day after Cyclone Michaung lashed at the city and the Tamil Nadu Government
had to deploy trained personnel in flood-hit areas.
Tamil actor, Vishnu Vishal with whom he was residing, shared the photos on social media, thanking the
Fire and Rescue Department personnel for their help to stranded people in Karapakkam. He also
thanked the Tamil Nadu Government for work in the “testing times”. The photos of Vishnu Vishal with
Aamir, along with national badminton champion and the former’s wife Jwala Gutta, in a rescue boat
went viral.
