If I have been awarded, I refuse it: Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee on receiving Padma Bhushan

Buddhistadeb Bhattacharjee, former West Bengal Chief Minister and veteran CPI(M) leader refused to accept Padma Bhushan award. I know nothing about this award. No one has told me anything about it, he said in a statement.

 

Former West Bengal Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee has turned down the Padma Vibhushan award. It has been said on his behalf that no one has given him any information about being given this honor. It is noteworthy that the name of Ghulam Nabi Azad is also included in the list of Padma awards along with opposition leader Buddhistadeb.

 

Buddhadeb Bhattacharya, who was the Chief Minister of West Bengal from 2000 to 2011. He was elected MLA from Jadavpur assembly constituency for 24 consecutive years. According to CPI(M) sources, this is an internal affair and not a decision of the party as a whole.
The controversy over the rejection of Padma Bhushan award for Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee by President Pranab Mukherjee has come into the limelight as well as that of former minister Jairam Ramesh, who tweeted ‘Right thing done, he does not want to be a slave and be free’.
