The 54th International Film Festival of India that was inaugurated in Goa will be hosted from 20 – 28
November 2023. As in previous years, the event aims to provide a platform for Indian filmmakers and
producers to showcase their talent to a global audience. At the same time, it attempts to show a curated
selection of remarkable films from world cinema to film aficionados in the country.
Since 1952, India has hosted the International Film Festival of India (IFFI) where both competitive and non-
competitive films have been screened. From 1975, it became an annual event and has come to garner
appreciation for its eclectic mix of world panorama of films. Organized annually by the National Film
Development Corporation of India Ltd. (NFDC) and the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting,
Government of India, IFFI has been held in Goa in collaboration with the State Government of Goa
and the Indian film industry.
The 54th edition of the festival is set to screen films from all over the world with countries such as
Burkina Faso, Iran, China, Mexico, Turkey, Spain, and others sending in their films. Micheal Douglas, the
celebrated actor with over 50 years of film, television, and production experience is bestowed with the
Satyajit Ray Lifetime Achievement Award for Excellence in Cinema. Madhuri Dixit, an acclaimed Indian film
star well-known for her era-defining roles in Hindi films, has received special recognition and an Award for
Contribution to Bharatiya Cinema.
75 talented filmmakers and artists from 19 Indian states are set to be a part of a special initiative,
Creative Minds of Tomorrow at the Festival. This will be the 3rd edition of the initiative.
At the inaugural ceremony, the Information and Broadcasting Minister, Anurag Singh Thakur said,” IFFI
has been growing every year, thanks to the passion of our filmmakers from across the country and the
collaboration that we have been able to forge with the directors and producers from all over the world.”
The 9-day event was inaugurated at Panaji’s Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Indoor Stadium yesterday and
was attended by a star-studded audience that included Vijay Sethupathi, Pankaj Tripathi, Karan Johar,
Sunny Deol, Sukhwinder Singh, Shreya Ghoshal, Shantanu Moitra, and others.
