A large number of women in Sandeshkhali in North 24 Parganas district have accused Trinamool Congress local leader and strongman Shajahan Sheikh as well as his supporters of “land-grabbing and sexually assaulting” them under coercion.
Shajahan Sheikh has been absconding since early January, when an ED team that went to investigate him was attacked by a mob consisting of individuals allegedly affiliated to him. The apex agency went to Sandeshkhali on January 5 to investigate Sheikh and his premises in connection with his alleged role in the ration scam.
