England have defeated India by seven wickets in the rescheduled 5th Test match

In the fifth Test match that was postponed, England defeated India by seven wickets on Tuesday at Edgbaston in Birmingham. Earlier, England got off to a fast start on Day 5 with to the partnership of Root and Jonny Bairstow. The hosts’ innings were resumed with a score of 259 for 3.

India was defeated for 245 in their second innings on Day 4 of the fifth Test, setting England a target of 378 to win the match. At Monday’s pitch, England had a score of 259 for 3, requiring 119 runs to win. In England’s first innings 284, the former captain Root was 76 not out and Bairstow was 72 not out after scoring 106, his third hundred in as many Tests.When the Yorkshire pair joined forces at 109 for 3, England had just lost three wickets in rapid succession either side of tea. They went on to score an unbroken 150 runs in 22 overs.
