Fadnavis: Pune to Become a Leading Fintech Hub

Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis laid the foundation stone for the new Bajaj Finserv Campus in Pune, describing the modern and sustainable headquarters as an important step in shaping the city's future and strengthening its position in India's fintech ecosystem.

Fadnavis said Pune and Mumbai have emerged as key capitals of India's fintech sector. He noted that Mumbai accounted for 61% of total fintech investments in the first quarter, surpassing Bengaluru, while fintech startups recorded significant growth and attracted around $900 million in investments.

He said Maharashtra is working to expand this ecosystem to Nashik, Chhatrapati Sambhaji Nagar and Nagpur, with Bajaj Finserv also set to expand its services in Nagpur.

The Chief Minister said Pune's rapid growth requires infrastructure capable of matching its pace. Along with external and internal ring roads, the government is working on a network of underground routes to establish Pune as a city with faster and more modern mobility within the next three to four years.

The upcoming Bajaj Finserv campus is expected to become an important and sustainable development, with around 40,000 employees associated with the ecosystem.

Fadnavis said the connecting road and an additional bridge would be completed before the campus construction is finished.

He also highlighted the Bajaj Group's contribution to India's industrial development and nation-building. The group has expressed its intention to establish an arts and cultural centre in Pune, which will be developed with cooperation from the municipal corporation and other stakeholders.

Fadnavis further said Maharashtra has prepared a special policy to strengthen its leadership in financial transactions and banking. The state is also working to retain its leading position in the domestic insurance and digital lending markets. He urged Bajaj Finserv to work closely with the Maharashtra government to further strengthen the state's leadership in fintech.

Deputy Chief Minister Sunetra Ajit Pawar, Pune Mayor Manjusha Nagpure, Bajaj Finserv Chairman and Managing Director Sanjiv Bajaj, and other dignitaries were present at the event.
