Fadnavis: Pune Poised to Become India’s No. 1 Global Capability Hub

Maharashtra is stepping up efforts to establish Pune as India’s leading hub for Global Capability Centers (GCCs), with Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis setting an ambitious target for the city to secure the top position in the country’s rapidly expanding GCC sector.

Fadnavis made the remarks while inaugurating the Global Capability Center of The Magnum Ice Cream Company in Pune and unveiling its cornerstone. The city currently has more than 130 GCCs, and the number is expected to rise significantly as global companies increasingly choose Pune for their global business operations.

The Chief Minister said Maharashtra has emerged as India’s leading and preferred investment destination for Global Capability Centers. He attributed Pune’s growing appeal to its industry-friendly ecosystem and availability of skilled manpower, while highlighting the strong response from international companies looking to establish Global Business Solutions Centers in the city.

Magnum’s Pune Center to Create Over 1,000 Jobs

The new Magnum center is expected to create more than 1,000 direct employment opportunities, while also generating additional indirect employment in the surrounding ecosystem.

According to Fadnavis, the center will deploy artificial intelligence, automation, logistics and other modern technologies to improve Magnum’s global business processes. These technologies will support more efficient production, distribution and customer-experience operations.

The Chief Minister stressed that collaboration between government and industry is essential for creating an ecosystem that attracts investment, generates employment and drives economic growth. He reiterated that the Maharashtra government is committed to providing industries with the support and conducive environment required to expand their operations in the state.

Pune Infrastructure Push to Support GCC Growth

Fadnavis said the establishment of Magnum’s GCC in Pune, alongside the company’s regional headquarters in Mumbai, is expected to provide a new direction to its expansion in Maharashtra.

The state government is also working to improve industrial and IT infrastructure in Pune and make the city more attractive to Global Capability Centers. Special attention is being given to infrastructure-related challenges in Pune’s IT corridor, including Hinjewadi.

The Chief Minister said the positive response from industry reflects the impact of government initiatives aimed at creating a business- and investment-friendly environment. He emphasized that large-scale employment generation through investment remains a key priority for the state government.

The event was attended by MLA Amit Gorkhe, MLA Shankar Jagtap, The Magnum Ice Cream Company Executive Director (CFO) Abhijit Bhattacharya, the company’s President for the Middle East, Turkey and South Asia Toloy Tanridagli, and other dignitaries.
