Glasgow 2026 CWG Day 9: India Shines with Seven Boxing Golds

By Editorial Team
India's boxers celebrate seven gold medals on Day 9 of the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games alongside key moments from athletics, netball and cycling.

Commonwealth Games delivered thrilling action across boxing, athletics, netball and cycling, with India emerging as one of the biggest winners after capturing seven gold medals in boxing.

India dominated the boxing finals, winning seven of the ten title bouts. One of the most dramatic victories came in the men's final where Sachin produced a sensational comeback against Namibia's Tryagain Morning Ndevelo, securing victory with a decisive knockdown from the final punch of the contest.

In the women's 57kg boxing final, Northern Ireland's Michaela Walsh earned silver but achieved a historic milestone by becoming the first boxer to win four Commonwealth Games medals. Despite missing out on gold, Walsh described the achievement as a proud moment in her career.

Athletics also produced standout performances as 19 medal events were decided. Scotland's Josh Kerr thrilled the home crowd by winning the prestigious Mile race with a powerful finishing kick. Nigeria's Samuel Ogazi stamped his authority in the men's 400m, finishing comfortably ahead of the field and declaring his ambition to become an Olympic, World and Commonwealth champion.

Netball witnessed one of the biggest upsets of the Games as Jamaica stunned defending champions Australia 46-45 to book a place in the gold-medal match. Australia narrowly missed forcing extra time after Sophie Dwyer's late shot failed to convert. Jamaica will now face New Zealand in the final after the Silver Ferns defeated England.

Cycling fans celebrated Scottish hero Neil Fachie, who claimed a record seventh Commonwealth Games gold medal in the Men's Tandem B Sprint. Announcing it as his final race, Fachie received an emotional ovation from the home crowd. Wales also impressed at the Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome, with Anna Morris winning gold and Jessica Roberts taking silver in the Women's 25km Points Race.

With unforgettable performances across multiple sports, Day 9 further showcased the excitement and global appeal of the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games.
