Goodbye Scotland. Hello India! Ahmedabad Begins the Road to Commonwealth Games 2030

The curtain came down on the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games with a spectacular closing ceremony as Scotland officially handed over the Commonwealth Games flag and ceremonial baton to India, the host of the landmark centenary edition in 2030.

Olympic champion Neeraj Chopra, Indian Olympic Association President PT Usha, and Gujarat Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghavi received the flag and baton on behalf of India, marking the beginning of Ahmedabad's preparations for one of the world's biggest multi-sport events.

The closing ceremony celebrated Scotland's rich heritage before seamlessly transitioning into a colourful showcase of India's cultural diversity, traditions and artistic excellence.

The audience witnessed a captivating Indo-Scottish cultural fusion, featuring energetic dance performances and musical collaborations that symbolised friendship and unity through sport.

India also concluded a successful campaign in Glasgow, finishing fourth in the overall medal standings with 39 medals, including 13 gold, 17 silver and 9 bronze, reflecting the country's growing strength across multiple sporting disciplines.

With Ahmedabad set to host the 2030 Commonwealth Games, India will become only the second nation after Australia to stage the Commonwealth Games more than once, having previously hosted the event in New Delhi in 2010.

As Glasgow bid farewell, the spotlight shifted to India, where Ahmedabad now prepares to welcome the Commonwealth sporting family for the historic centenary Games in 2030.
