What is the belief associated with this festival? (Gopashtami 2022 Importance)
According to mythology, when Lord Krishna was young, one day he insisted in front of Mother Yashoda to go for cow grazing. All his companions went to graze cows, so Krishna also wanted to accompany them. Then Mother Yashoda got the auspicious time from Rishi Shandilya and got the cows worshiped by Shri Krishna, only after that sent them to the forest to graze the cows. There is also a story that Shri Krishna carried the Govardhan mountain on his finger for 8 days. When Lord Krishna put the mountain down after apologizing to Lord Indra, Kamdhenu cow anointed him with his milk. Everyone also worshiped Kamdhenu cow. That is why on this day the practice of worshiping cows is going on.
