Hemant Soren Challenges BJP, Vows to Quit if Proven Guilty

Arrested former chief minister of Jharkhand Hemant Soren challenged the BJP to prove the corruption charges against him. He has declared that if the accusations against him are proved, he will quit politics. Presently under the custody of the Enforcement Directorate, Hemant Soren was allowed to take part in today’s trust vote for his successor, Champai Soren.

Taking part in the confidence motion moved by his successor Champai Soren in the assembly, the JMM executive president also alleged that the Raj Bhavan had a definite role in his arrest after a “conspiracy” was hatched by the Centre.

JMM legislature party leader Champai Soren took oath as the chief minister of Jharkhand on February 2, after Hemant Soren was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate earlier in a money laundering case related to illegal acquisition of land.”I challenge BJP to prove corruption charges against me. If proved, I will resign from politics,” said Hemant Soren.

Ex- Chief Minister Given Permission By Special PMLA Court To Participate In Voting

The ex-chief minister was given permission by a special PMLA (Prevention of Money Laundering Act) court to participate in the trust vote that took place today. For the record, Champai Soren won the trust vote,

Earlier, Champai Soren moved the confidence motion in the 81-member Assembly. “The BJP tried to destabilise the democratically elected Jharkhand government,” he said.

It was a fast-paced day at Ranchi as Champai Soren went ahead with the Floor Test in the Assembly today to prove JMM majority.  As mentioned earlier, a special court allowed the former CM, Hemant Soren to participate in the voting process. He took part in the voting at 11 am today. The ruling coalition has 47 MLAs in the 81-member Jharkhand Assembly after Gandey MLA Sarfaraz Ahmed quit to make space for Hemant Soren’s wife Kalpana Soren. The BJP has 25 MLAs and the AJSU, or All Jharkhand Students Union, has three. The NCP and a Left party have one each and there are three independent MLAs. Before the commencement of the Floor Test, Biranchi Narain, chief whip of the BJP in Jharkhand, declared that the coalition was set to lose the vote of confidence.

The JMM, on the other hand, stressed that the Floor Test was merely a formality. “The figure can also cross 48. Our party, our alliance is united,” said JMM’s Manoj Pandey. JMM’s General Secretary Supriyo Bhattacharya said the Champai Soren government has the support of not less than 47 MLAs. JMM Lok Sabha MP Vijay Kumar Hansda said,” I think everyone can see our unity. We stand strongly with Hemant Soren. People have understood the dirty game of the BJP…”

Before the Floor Test commenced in Jharkhand assembly today, Leader of Opposition and BJP leader Amar Kumar Bauri said, “Instead of fulfilling the promises they (JMM-led alliance government) had made, they prioritised corruption…”

“BJP doesn’t want a tribal CM to complete 5 years in Jharkhand, they did not allow this in their regimes,” said Hemant Soren in the state assembly after his arrival for the Floor Test today. Soren in his speech said he will resign from politics if they show me any records of my ownership of the 8.3 acres of land. Speaking in the Assembly today, the JMM leader said he would not shed tears today because the tears of tribals and backward sections do not matter.
