Himachal Pradesh Vidhan Sabha adjourned sine die after passing budget for 2024-25

We are witnessing a political crisis as both BJP and the Congress Party are claiming power in the Northern hill state. Several BJP MLAs led by Jairam Thakur today met Himachal Pradesh Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla in the morning today, a day after the party won the lone Rajya Sabha seat in the state. The meeting comes amid a strong buzz that the BJP is set to bring a motion of no-confidence in the assembly against the Congress government in the state.

The BJP said that the Rajya Sabha elections made it clear that the Congress government was in minority in Himachal Pradesh and demanded the resignation of the Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu.

The Congress has 40 MLAs and the BJP 25 in the 68-member state assembly. The remaining three seats are held by independents.

The Congress top brass today rushed former chief minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda and DK Shivakumar to Shimla to parley with members of the party which is facing loss of support and risks losing power in the state.

As per sources, Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge is supposed to have spoken to former party chief Rahul Gandhi and general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on the current Himachal developments.

Chief Minister Has Not Offered Any Resignation As Yet

Reacting to reports that Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu had offered to quit, the Himachal Chief Minister said, “I haven’t offered any resignation. I am a warrior, will keep fighting.” He further asserted that the Congress party will remain in power in the state for five years.

Addressing reporters, Congress leader Jairam Ramesh said the BJP cannot take away the people’s mandate in Himachal Pradesh through its “Operation Lotus”. He added that Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP chief JP Nadda were thrown out by the voters of the hill state in the last assembly elections.
