India Among 7 Bids in Race to Host 2036 Olympics
India has been officially included among seven countries that have expressed interest in hosting the 2036 Olympic Games, with the International Olympic Committee (IOC) inviting all interested parties to present their projects to the Future Host Commission in November.
According to the IOC, the countries currently in continuous dialogue over a potential 2036 Olympic bid are Germany, Hungary, India, Qatar, the Republic of Korea, South Africa and Türkiye.
The IOC said the projects will be assessed on several technical and strategic factors, including the venue master plan, athlete experience, funding strategy, political and public support, Games delivery capabilities and long-term legacy plans for host communities.
The interested parties have been invited to present their respective projects to the Future Host Commission in November. The IOC has also stated that, in view of the current schedule, no new interested parties for the 2036 Olympics will be considered after October 31.
India submitted its Expression of Interest to host the 2036 Olympic Games in 2024. The host-selection process was subsequently halted by newly elected IOC President Kirsty Coventry, who indicated that fresh feedback would be sought from IOC members with the aim of streamlining the selection process.
The latest development places India's Olympic hosting aspirations among a defined group of seven interested countries as the IOC moves towards the next stage of dialogue and evaluation.
