Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman speaking about India’s economic growth and investment opportunities in Toronto

Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman highlighted India’s strong economic fundamentals and growing global opportunities, describing India as the fastest-growing major economy in the world.

Speaking in Toronto, Sitharaman said India offers a combination of scale, sustained economic growth, a young population, expanding consumption and rapidly deepening capital markets that is difficult to match.

She underlined that India’s economic transformation is structural, supported by rapid urbanisation, the expansion of the middle class and world-class digital infrastructure. These developments, she noted, are creating new opportunities across virtually every sector of the economy.

Sitharaman also highlighted the role of India’s digital ecosystem in transforming access to financial and commercial services.

The expansion of digital infrastructure has significantly reduced the cost of access while allowing financial and commercial services to reach a much wider population.

The Finance Minister’s remarks underline India’s growing appeal as a major destination for investment, with its large consumer base, expanding economy, demographic strength and technology-driven infrastructure creating opportunities for businesses and investors globally.
