PM Modi Highlights India’s Growing Clean Energy Capacity and Electric Vehicle Revolution

Prime Minister Narendra Modi highlighted India’s accelerating transition toward cleaner energy and sustainable technologies while addressing the International Conference on “The Future of Environment and Climate Dynamics.”

The Prime Minister said India has significantly expanded its hydropower capacity and is now rapidly increasing nuclear energy generation. He also noted that a framework has been created to enable greater private-sector participation in the nuclear energy sector.

According to PM Modi, these efforts have helped India increase its non-fossil energy capacity nearly fourfold.
India is also pursuing cleaner technologies such as coal gasification, while expanding efforts in emerging sectors including green hydrogen and clean mobility.

Highlighting developments in hydrogen-powered transportation, PM Modi said India’s first hydrogen train has recently started operations, describing it as the beginning of a new era in clean mobility.

The Prime Minister also pointed to the rapid growth of electric vehicle (EV) adoption in India. He said annual EV sales have increased dramatically over the past 12 years, from fewer than 3,000 units before 2014 to around 25 lakh units last year.

PM Modi said the growth of electric mobility is also contributing to environmental protection as India continues to pursue cleaner transportation and lower-emission technologies.

The remarks underline the government’s focus on combining energy security, technological innovation and environmental sustainability as India advances its broader clean-energy transition.
