Praveen Chithravel and Selva Prabhu Thirumaran celebrate after winning silver and bronze respectively in the men's triple jump at the Commonwealth Games 2026.

India's athletics contingent scripted a memorable chapter in Commonwealth Games history as Praveen Chithravel clinched the Silver medal and Selva Prabhu Thirumaran secured the Bronze medal in the men's triple jump final at the Commonwealth Games 2026 in Glasgow. The remarkable achievement marked India's first-ever double podium finish in the men's triple jump at the Commonwealth Games.

Praveen Chithravel's Redemption Story

National record holder Praveen Chithravel produced a brilliant comeback after opening with a jump of 16.05m, placing him fifth in the standings. He improved to 16.31m on his third attempt before delivering a superb 16.58m leap in the fourth round to move into the silver medal position.

The medal was particularly special for Chithravel, who had narrowly missed the podium by just three centimetres at the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games. The 2023 Asian Games bronze medallist once again showcased his consistency on the international stage.

His performance underlined the growing strength of India's jumping programme and added another milestone to Indian athletics.

Jamaica's Jordan Scott produced the winning jump of 16.72m to secure the gold medal, finishing ahead of the two Indian athletes.
