India-UK CETA Comes Into Force, PM Modi Hails Milestone
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday welcomed the operationalisation of the India-United Kingdom Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA) and the Agreement on Social Security, describing it as a landmark moment in the bilateral relationship.
In a post on X, the Prime Minister said the agreements would deepen economic ties between India and the United Kingdom while creating tangible opportunities for people and businesses in both countries.
Calling the development a significant milestone, Modi said the implementation of CETA would provide fresh momentum to Indian farmers, entrepreneurs and Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs). He added that several high-growth sectors would benefit from improved access to the UK market.
The Prime Minister also highlighted that the agreement would strengthen cooperation in technology, professional services and innovation, while promoting greater mobility for skilled Indian professionals seeking opportunities in the United Kingdom.
Modi said the agreements reflect the shared ambition of both nations to build a stronger economic partnership, expand trade, encourage investment and generate employment through closer collaboration.
The operationalisation of CETA is expected to enhance bilateral trade, reduce market barriers, improve business confidence and further strengthen the long-standing strategic partnership between India and the United Kingdom.
