The feature works similarly to editing messages in DMs, which Instagram introduced earlier.
Ever posted a comment and instantly noticed a typo? Instagram is rolling out a new feature that allows users to edit their comments on posts and Reels—making it easier to correct mistakes without deleting the entire comment.
Until now, users had to delete a comment and repost it if they made an error. With the new update, users can edit comments not only on their own posts but also on posts shared by friends, followers, and accounts they follow. However, there are some limitations.
Users can edit only the text and emojis in their comments. Comments that include videos, GIFs, or avatar reactions cannot be edited. If you want to change those, you’ll still need to delete the original comment and post a new one.
There’s also a time limit. Users have 15 minutes after posting a comment to make edits. Once this window closes, the comment can no longer be edited and must be deleted to correct any mistakes. Within those 15 minutes, however, users can edit the comment multiple times without restriction.
Edited comments will appear with an “Edited” label, letting others know that the comment has been modified. Unlike some messaging apps such as iMessage, Instagram will not show the edit history of the comment.
This update mirrors the comment editing feature in Instagram Direct Messages, which the platform introduced earlier.
How to edit a comment on Instagram:
- Go to the comment you posted.
- Tap the Edit option below the comment.
- Correct the text or emojis.
- Tap Done to save the changes.
With this feature, Instagram users can quickly fix typos or tweak their comments—as long as they do it within 15 minutes.
