Iran Backs India’s Leadership of BRICS, Araghchi Says
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has praised India’s leadership of BRICS, describing the country as a major emerging power capable of guiding the grouping effectively.
Speaking on BRICS, Araghchi said Iran considers India a “great emerging country” and expressed confidence in New Delhi’s ability to lead the group and its member states.
“We consider India as a great emerging country, which is now presiding over BRICS,” Araghchi said.
He highlighted the growing importance of BRICS in the global economic and political landscape, calling the grouping an important institution that is playing a significant role.
Araghchi also discussed the issue of currencies and trade within BRICS. He said that although member countries have different views on several issues, there is broad agreement on strengthening national currencies and increasing trade using national currencies.
According to the Iranian foreign minister, the idea of creating a common BRICS currency remains under consideration, but no consensus has yet been reached on adopting a single currency.
