PM Modi Meets UN Chief Guterres, Calls for UN Reforms

Prime Minister Narendra Modi met United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres on the sidelines of the 18th BRICS Summit in New Delhi and held discussions on key global and multilateral issues.

Sharing details of the meeting on social media, PM Modi said he had a “wonderful meeting” with Guterres. The discussions covered the progress made during India’s BRICS Presidency, India’s continued commitment to strengthening multilateralism, and the urgent need for reforms in the United Nations.

The meeting comes as India hosts the 18th BRICS Summit, with discussions focused on strengthening cooperation among BRICS nations and addressing major global challenges through dialogue and multilateral engagement.

PM Modi has consistently highlighted the need to make global institutions more representative and responsive to contemporary geopolitical and economic realities. UN reforms, including the long-pending reform of the UN Security Council, remain an important part of India’s multilateral agenda.

The meeting with Guterres also underlined India’s emphasis on constructive international cooperation and strengthening multilateral institutions to address emerging global challenges.
