Jaishankar, Rubio Hold Talks on Trade, AI, Defence and Global Issues in Manila

External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar met United States Secretary of State Marco Rubio in Manila on Wednesday for wide-ranging discussions aimed at advancing the India–US Comprehensive Global Strategic Partnership.

The bilateral meeting focused on several priority areas of cooperation, including trade and tariffs, energy security, defence and security, critical minerals, and artificial intelligence. Both sides also reviewed the progress of ongoing collaboration and explored ways to further strengthen strategic and economic ties between the two countries.

In addition to bilateral issues, Dr. Jaishankar and Secretary Rubio exchanged views on regional, global and multilateral developments of mutual interest, reflecting the close coordination between New Delhi and Washington on key international challenges.

Sharing details of the meeting on social media, Dr. Jaishankar said he was pleased to meet Secretary Rubio in Manila and described the discussions as focused on the priority pillars of the Comprehensive Global Strategic Partnership.

The meeting took place on the sidelines of ASEAN-led engagements in the Philippine capital, where leaders and foreign ministers are holding consultations on regional security, economic cooperation and emerging geopolitical issues. The interaction underscores the continued momentum in India–US relations as both countries expand cooperation across strategic sectors, emerging technologies, critical supply chains and regional security.
