Japan vs Croatia FIFA World Cup 2022: Japan faced Croatia in the Round of 16. The match was played at the Al Janoub Stadium in Qatar. Croatia beat Japan 3–1 in the penalty shootout. In this way the team reached the quarter finals. In the next round, Croatia will face the winner of the match between Brazil and South Korea.

Croatia beat Japan 3-1 in the penalty shootout. Vlasic, Brozovic and Pasalic, who came to take the shot from Croatia, scored. At the same time, Livaja missed. At the same time, only Asano could score from Japan. Minamino, Mitoma and Yoshida missed out on scoring. Croatia goalkeeper Livkovic made three saves in the shootout.

Earlier the score was equal to 1-1 till full time. Dezen Maeda scored for Japan in the 43rd minute. At the same time, Ivan Perisic equalized the score for Croatia in the 55th minute. After this the match reached extra time. There also both the teams could not score any goal and the match reached the penalty shootout. In the next round, Croatia will face the winner of the match between Brazil and South Korea.

What happened in the penalty shootout?

Takumi Minamino of Japan came to take the first shot. However, his shot was saved by Croatian goalkeeper Livkovic.
After this, Nikola Vlasic scored from Croatia.
Kauro Mitoma of Japan misses his shot. His shot was blocked by Livakovic.
Croatia’s Brozovic then scored to take a 2-0 lead in the shootout.
Japan’s Takuma Asano scored a goal to make it 2-1.
Croatia’s Marko Livaja then missed, brilliantly saved by Japanese goalkeeper Gonda.
Captain Maya Yoshida came to take the fourth shot from Japan, but her shot was also stopped by the Croatian goalkeeper.
After this, Mario Pasalich scored a goal to take his team to the next round.

Croatia’s team was playing the Round of 16 match for the third time in the World Cup and three times the team has managed to reach the quarter-finals. The team has won the Round of 16 match in the penalty shootout in the World Cup for the second time in a row. Earlier in the 2018 World Cup, Croatia defeated Denmark in the penalty shootout.
