Actress Kavita Chaudhary passed away yesterday. She is fondly remembered for her television show Udaan in which she plays a feisty woman struggling to be a police officer, and her characterization of Lalita ji in Surf commercials. Her nephew Ajay Sayal informed a news portal that the actress suffered cardiac arrest in Amritsar, and passed away thereafter. Kavita Chaudhury 67.
Nephew Conveyed News Of Her Demise
Her nephew, Ajay Sayal conveyed the news of her demise. “She died due to cardiac arrest on Thursday at 8.30pm. She breathed her last at Parvati Devi Hospital in Amritsar where she was being treated,” he informed.
Anang Desai, Popular Television Actor Expresses Sadness
Popular television actor Anang Desai, who was her batchmate in the National School of Drama expressed his sadness. “I came to know about her passing away this morning. She died last night. It is very sad. Kavita was our batchmate at the National School of Drama. We studied together at NSD for three years. Kavita, Satish Kaushik, Anupam (Kher), Govind Namdev, and I were in the same batch. She had cancer a few years ago, but we met after that. She wished to keep it private, so we never spoke about it. She was originally from Amritsar and passed away there. I spoke to her about fifteen days ago when she was in Mumbai. She was not keeping too well at the time. Kavita’s nephew informed me about her demise this morning,” he told Indian Express.
Kavita Chaudhary was born in Amritsar, Punjab, on January 1, 1954 and began her acting career in the early 1970s. She soon became one of the most popular actresses in India and starred in many memorable films and television shows that included Udaan and Hum Log. She became an immensely known face throughout the country for her work in the Surf commercials where she played the role of an urban, middle-class who wants the biggest advantage on her detergent budget.
The actress is survived by her husband, two sons, and two daughters.
Kavita Chaudhary’s death is a big loss to the Indian film and television industry and will surely evoke a sense of nostalgia in television viewers of the 80s.
